Virtual Vectoring

Creating a Uniform Virtual Geometry

A key solution component of Interactive Telepresence encompasses Teliris’ proprietary VirtualVectoring solution. VirtualVectoring is a unique concept pioneered by Teliris that enhances the overall meeting environment by creating more a lifelike orientation and interface among users of the solution. The standards we have put in place for achieving Virtual Vectoring are as follows:

  • Consistently maintaining eye contact and sight lines among participants
  • The ability to provide multi-point vectoring (i.e., more than two rooms/connections, which would just be “point-to-point”)
  • Dimensioning—the complexity associated with creating camera placement, sight lines envisioning, etc. dependent on the number of rooms and number of participants in each room. This includes guidelines for the maximum number of individuals that should appear on each plasma screen, a track system for cameras so that they can automatically move to address changes to these criteria, etc.
  • Never sending the same image to more than one site so that each location sees images in the way that they would see them from their vantage point if they were physically in the room
  • Proper placement of “multiple cameras” equipment that flanks a plasma screen, in order to ensure that sight lines for all users are maintained

The VirtualVectoring concept is enabled via:

  • A wide-screen display system that presents each user to the other in the proper aspect ratio and size.
  • A sound system that ensures that sounds directionally come from the images on each display and microphone placement approach that capture the full range of nuances and volume in the human voice
  • Data transport networks and sophisticated pre- and post-processing systems produce ‘better than broadcast’ quality image resolution with fluid motion tracking
  • ImageAnywhere technology to allow for positioning of audio and video on any of the VirtuaLive™ telepresence display / audio sub systems

Virtual Vectoring ensures that non-verbal cues and eye contact occur as they do in a face-to-face meeting
