ComputerWorld - Strategies & Tactics (By John Dickinson)
SHARING THE VISION
In June, Teliris launched Telepresence Gateway, which it says is the first product to support interoperation between competing telepresence systems. Gateway now enables Teliris VirtuaLive systems to connect to systems from Polycom and Tandberg ASA , and Teliris plans to expand the list of vendors whose systems it supports to include Cisco , HP and others.
Gateway works with traditional videoconferencing technologies, such as those offered by Polycom, and with webconferencing technologies such as Cisco's WebEx and Microsoft Corp. 's LiveMeeting.
Teliris also offers WebConnect, a Web-based telepresence product that lets people join meetings even if they can't be at a VirtuaLive-equipped site.
Forrester analyst Henry Dewing notes that you don’t need expensive telepresence technology for everyday telecommuters, but linking workers to telepresence systems via systems like WebConnect can improve communication.
