LANDMARK WHITE PAPER ESTABLISHES INTERACTIVE TELEPRESENCE AS A NEW AND SEPARATE CLASS OF TECHNOLOGY FOR MEETING OVER DISTANCE

NEW YORK - March 29, 2004 - Teliris Ltd. announced today that a landmark white paper has been written, establishing a new niche within the conferencing and meeting technology space, known as Interactive Telepresence.

Interactive Telepresence is a revolutionary technology that redefines videoconferencing, using a fundamentally new and different class of technology to dramatically advance its value to global businesses. Teliris is the leading provider of this technology worldwide, selling its line of solutions under the VirtuaLive™ brand name.

In addition to establishing this niche as a separate entity from legacy (or traditional) videoconferencing, the paper attempts to accomplish the following objectives:
  • Establish tangible standards that must be met for a product or solutions company to be considered part of the Interactive Telepresence space
  • Assess the relative strengths and weaknesses of several companies that meet enough of these standards to be considered "Interactive Telepresence Providers"
  • Draw conclusions about the future of Interactive Telepresence, in terms of growth, new entrants to the category and overall value from a business perspective
The author of the paper is Dr. Ann Earon, a thirty-year veteran of the teleconferencing industry. Dr. Earon is the president of Telemanagement Resources International, a consulting organization that specializes in teleconferencing and meeting technologies. "I have spent many years covering this industry and I firmly believe that this is one of the most important developments, in terms of its overall impact," she noted. "Videoconferencing has suffered from over promise and under delivery throughout its history. For the first time, we have identified a related but separate segment that, depending on the specific solution, actually delivers a realistic, intimate and effective meeting experience that is the next best thing to an in-person meeting."

Marc Trachtenberg, Teliris's co-founder and vice chairman, said: "This is a very important development for us, as well as the other major players in the space. We have been trying to establish Interactive Telepresence as a separate space, delivering a superior user experience, for a number of years. Dr. Earon has written the first balanced assessment of the space in its relatively short history, with clear guidelines, and a frank assessment of the key companies that merit consideration."

Steve Gage, Teliris's co-founder and chief operating officer, noted that: "It has been a real marketing and sales challenge for us since we created the first true Interactive Telepresence solutions several years ago. As the leader in the segment, we have shouldered the burden of establishing both the segment itself, as well as our leadership position within it. We believe that this paper is a thorough and exhaustive attempt, outside of our own efforts, to do this. We are also very happy that Dr. Earon concurs with our claims that Teliris's VirtuaLive™ line of solutions embodies all of the standards that must be met, as well as several innovations, such as vectoring and our control and management solutions, that no other company in the space currently provides."

Established in February 2001, Teliris Ltd. is a spin-off of the network and directory services leader Mycroft Inc. Headquartered in New York and London, Teliris, using its VirtuaLive™ meeting environment, simulates in-person meetings to an extent not achievable with traditional videoconferencing, while giving clients an extraordinary return on value. Among the many companies employing the VirtuaLive™ solution are GlaxoSmithKline, DreamWorks, Lazard, the venture-capital firm 3i, Pearson plc and Vodafone.

S. Ann Earon is the president of Telemanagement Resources International Inc. (TRI) In 1982, S. Ann Earon founded TRI, a management consulting firm specializing in marketing, communications, and training with an emphasis on market research, assessment, design, implementation, and project management of videoconferencing systems.

She has also worked on the strategic planning, needs assessment, design, and implementation of videoconferencing systems for many organizations.
